Advanced CROss-cutting Material Structures – Improved IMPACT resistance of lightweight defence structures / Zaawansowane przekrojowe struktury materiałowe – poprawa odporności lekkich konstrukcji obronnych na uderzenia
Akronim/ Acronym: IMPACT-I
Nr umowy / Project ID: B.PRJ.RT.1254

ENG:
The IMPACT project addresses the need to develop impact-resistant structural systems that enhance the durability, safety and reliability of future defence applications. Of particular importance are composites and bonded joints used in aerospace, naval, land and space systems exposed to impact loads, including ballistic and hypersonic loads.
The objective of the project is to develop methods for assessment of the impact resistance of materials and structures, a methodology for analysing the resulting damage, and advanced, lightweight structural prototypes optimised for defence applications. The project will also involve assessing the feasibility of implementing innovative impact-resistant systems, characterised by improved performance and extended service life.
R&D activities will focus on new material configurations and architectures, including multi-material, multi-layer and AI-designed solutions, as well as on innovative manufacturing processes, such as additive technologies and automation. The scope of the project will also include the development of advanced impact testing methods, multi-scale modelling, new structural design methods for specific load scenarios, and digital twins and structural condition monitoring systems to support the operation and repair of structures.
The objective of the IMPACT project is to develop material characterization methods in the context of impact damage resistance, methods for the analysis of damaged structures, and the design and manufacture advanced, impact-damage-resistant structural demonstrators (such as specialized wing components) optimized for defense applications.
